Monster Buildings Could be coming to Your Neighborhood!
Advocacy
At the end of the day, we have to advocate for our own causes. It’s not easy, requires time and commitment. But doing nothing is not an option for our neighborhood.
Concerns
We continue to be surprised and disappointed by the gap between the City’s Land Use Ordinance & plans (which have the weight of law) and actual land use being permitted.
Our own neighborhood’s experience has been a wake up call.

Built without permits. On track to be operated as a Group Living Facility in violation of Honolulu Land Use Ordinance § 21-5.290:
“…a group living facility must not be located within 1,000 feet of the next closest group living facility”.
1356 Manu Mele Street Kailua
Permitted and built as a Group Living Facility - no longer in operation.
Now reportedly being used as a short term rental with multiple tenants
Kina ‘Ole Estate 45-217 William Henry Road Kaneohe
Permitted as multiple less than 8 person ARCH I facilities. Operated as a single large Assisted Living Facility.
